WP1 - Management and Coordination

WP Leader: Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (UBER)

UBER will be the overall project coordinator. Therefore, it is also the partner mainly responsible for Work Package 1.

The objectives of this work package are:

  • to ensure the effective scientific coordination of the project (T1.1);
  • to provide for risk management and quality control (T1.2);
  • to ensure project-level coordination of language resources and tools (T1.3);
  • to ensure project-level coordination of evaluation activities (T1.4);
  • to promote the awareness of project objectives (T1.5);

The researchers from UBER involved in this project have huge experience in coordinating big research and educational projects as well as in organising scientific events such as conferences, workshops, etc. They will bring their expertise into the project in order to ensure smooth and productive work.

WP1 is divided into 6 Tasks. More specifically,

Task 1.1: Overall scientific coordination (UBER) (M1-M36)

This task is concerned with the overall aspect of the scientific coordination of the project, including among other activities, the allocation of responsibilities and tasks for every project participant, the organization of the project implementation according to milestones, the supervision of all main project activities, the facilitation of the cooperation between the different work packages, the monitoring of the deployment of the work plan and the progress of its execution, the ensuring of the achievement of the project objectives according to the schedule, etc. More specific scientific coordination activities are thematically grouped together in the tasks below.

Task 1.2: Scientific quality control and risk management (UBER) (M1-M36)

This task will prepare the quality and risk management plan, and will implement quality assurance and risk management procedures. This task includes the self assessment exercise vis a vis the different indicators for the success of the project in view of its reporting in the periodical progress reports. The Project Success Indicators are:

  • Scientific and technical progress
  • Reusable language resources and tools
  • Dissemination and impact

Task 1.3: Project-level coordination of language resources and tools (UBER) (M1-M36)

This task is concerned with the elaboration and updating of an integrated plan for the management of language resources and tools needed to support the activities in the different work packages along the project lifetime. This task will be closely coordinated with the tasks in the other work packages concerned with the adaptation and the curation of language resources and tools. These tasks are mostly part of work packages 3 and 4. New language processing tools will be also developed where this is absolutely needed.

Task 1.4: Project-level coordination of evaluation activities (UBER) (M1-M36)

Various tasks in work packages 5 and 6 are concerned with the explicit and implicit evaluation of the results achieved in the project. The present task is concerned with the coordination of all the aforementioned evaluation activities and their articulation at the global level of the project.

Task 1.5: Project-level coordination of dissemination activities (UBER) (M1-M36)

This task is concerned with reaching out activities aimed at raising the external awareness of the activities of the project, its goals and results. Those activities are explained in detail in Work Package 9 which specifically deals with dissemination. As a project coordinator, UBER will be responsible for coordinating the overall dissemination efforts undertaken collectively by all partners in the project.

Task 1.6: Exploitation (UBER) (M1-36)

This task is concerned with the exploitation of the results of the project, both scientifically and commercially. The goal of this task is to coordinate the efforts on system integration, dissemination, and commercialisation in a way that the MT system developed within the project has the largest possible impact in the scientific and commercial fields. Those efforts are part of 3 work packages, namely packages 7, 8, and 9. The role of UBER in this task is to assure that the work done in those 3 packages will sum up to achieving the desired impact of the project.
